
Slaw lovers know that this dish is not just for warm weather meals. Cabbage is an economical vegetable that is available year ‘round in most grocery stores. Cabbage is one of the oldest vegetables, dating back to the 1600’s and is available in many varieties such as red, purple, green and a type called Napa cabbage. Nutritionally speaking, cabbage is low in saturated fat and cholesterol. It also is high in dietary fiber and a source of many vitamins and minerals.

Miss Melissa's Slaw
Ingredients
- 1 medium-large head cabbage chopped or shredded
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise regular or reduced-fat
- 1/2 cup sour cream regular or reduced-fat
- 1 Tbsp. celery seed
- Dash of MSG
- 2-3 green onions minced
Instructions

In a bowl, combine cabbage with sugar, vinegar, water, oil and salt. Let sit 30 minutes.

Drain well, squeezing all liquid out of cabbage by hand.

Combine remaining ingredients; blend into cabbage. Store leftover slaw refrigerated for several days.
